Although these objects have their roots in the domestic, they are unfamiliar and ambiguous. Sculptures hang from the wall while the floor is painted. An empty lampshade is duplicated becoming doubly useless. These objects belong nowhere thus creating a sense of a domestic scene gone awry...
My work was chosen for the group exhibition 'Undertow' curated by Aideen Barry and Alice Maher which took place in Ormston Gallery in Limerick from Dec 2011 to Jan 2012. The show has been invited to the LAB in Dublin which will open at 6pm on Feb 2nd 2012 and run until the 3rd of March.

I am interested in found objects and how they carry within them their own associations, histories and gender. This piece was assembled with old bed springs and a rolling pin. The stacked piece evokes nightmarish dayglow cupcakes. Domestic references are clear with sexual tension at the core...
This piece is about anxiety. The fluorescent strip light dangles from the ceiling by it's own cable and blinks on and off erratically. It will never turn on properly as it is broken. It points to the ceiling like an erection but all things must come to an end and the bowl of water beneath it only adds to this tension. The plinth it rests on is the feminine aspect of the sculpture, albeit sarcastic, as the female throughout art history tends to be depicted as passive, reclining, horizontal.
